Tag Game!!

I looked at the tag for my username, and saw that Ari (allwayshallways) tagged me here! Oh man, how did I miss that? Now I’m doing it, too.

I’m going to just leave one answer above the cut because I namecheck a lot of my friends in it, and they might want to see! c:

8) Who do you look up to?  This can be someone that you look up to artistically, or as a person, or whatever!! They can be real people or fictional people.  Or not-people!  Whatever floats your boat!

I’m going to answer this for EACH OF THESE CATEGORIES. B)

  • Artistically
In terms of skill, Edmund Dulac’s paintings are beautiful. I really admire Aubrey Beardsley’s illustrations for Salome. And Tove Jansson has a wonderful way of creating a simple, appealing line. As a cartoonist, I adore Kate Beaton and Anthony Clark: they are so witty, with excellent comedic timing. And in terms of artistic development- this is corny, but I really admire my friend Bri! Man, she was showing us some of her work from just five years ago and it just looked like two different people’s work. She puts so much effort and focus into her work, I am so proud of her and I look up to her for that c’:
  • As a person
I look up to my friends for a lot of things (see above), and I will detail some of that further! My friend Stephen has a brilliant logical mind. My friend Shannon is incredibly imaginative. My friend Liz is great with relationships and caring about other people in a way that I envy. My friend Rebecca is so passionate about her beliefs, but without relinquishing her sense of humor. My friend Jinanne is stylish and funny and sweet. My friend Rory is funny and naive and outgoing and a natural leader. My friend Sun is brilliant and hilarious and talented in so many ways. GOSH. I COULD GO ON AT LENGTH, MAN. I already have! This is me when I’m leaving people out! I just know so many amazing people! Everyone who I talk to regularly (and some people I don’t talk to regularly) makes me feel lucky to be in their lives. I’m incredibly lucky!
But I also look up to public figures. Mr. Rogers was such a kind person, it takes me aback every time I hear about him. Carolita Johnson, the cartoonist and writer, is such a bold, stunning, interesting person. Every time i find she’s written an article, I alter my plans for the evening in order to find a good space to read it. She’s done so many interesting things with her life, and she inspires me to want more out of life.
  • Fictional Characters
The con artist Moist von Lipvig in Terry Pratchett’s “Going Postal” series. I just like the idea of this character who is talented at fooling everyone, and who uses this talent in positive ways. It sounds weird to say I look up to a character like this, but thinking of his story makes me feel like I can behave boldly and theatrically, even when my instinct is to be timid. So far, it’s worked well for me!
